Fenris Morgan
Fenris grew from street-urchin to footpad and on to hired thug in the streets of a big city. He was streetwise and savvy of his environment. Most of this from years of experiencing abuse and ill-treatment having "switched off" his compassion. Almost totally merciless Fenris is a vicious fighter and a cold-hearted interrogator.
One evening, around fifteen years of age, he was pressed into service. A coin in the bottom of his tankard and a platoon of heavy infantry rounded up the entire patronage of the Raven's Nest. They were herded into ships and sailed to the battle front.
The blood and violence became a way of life and that was in the camp of the Duke. Men were brutally punished for minor infractions and anyone caught escaping was flayed, then hanged. There was no hope for escape from the camp. Fenris decided he would become like those in charge. Unquestionable. On the field, in battle, there was little command structure and he leveraged off this to form his own fighting unit. Fenris' intimidating nature and sound tactics led to victories and the captain saw a useful tool.
Fenris was promoted to sergeant. His unit, the Silver Wolves, were gaining glory. Using crossbows, stealth, poison, acid-flasks, alchemist's fire and flash-bombs the Silver Wolves achieved many small victories. The war was progressing until the last supply ship did not arrive. Food became scarce and even the enemy seemed to suffer. Both sides retreated and winter set in with its first snows. Deserters were succeeding in their escape half the time as the horse could not follow them without wasting feed. Fenris took his unit, blitz-attacked the captain's tent and entourage, stole the war-chest and treasures of battle, then fled out of there just after sunset. The cry was raised but with the captain dead none had the courage to pursue the Silver Wolves.
Until the Duke received his letter. The Silver Wolves were tracked down by the former witchfinder general. The village was on the edge of the realm, near ruins alleged to be elfin, and the deserters were there to explore and loot. Cornered in a barn and outnumbered the witchfinder set the building aflame. How Fenris escaped, he has not said, but he has been on the run ever since.
This is my idea for the hard-bitten PC that I've mentioned in the past. Heavy armour, heavy damage, and heavy attitude.
How Fenris might fit with the current group – could be forced to work with them for clemency, or to get a pardon, or even just to delay being caught. Fenris is a brutal product of a harsh upbringing. A firm believer in "do unto others before they do unto you".
