Sinjin Marl – Guild Wizard
of the Arcanum Universitatum Veil Poiint City, Kubuldar
I am Sinjin Marl, and this is my Life
Thesis for graduation from the Aranum Universitatum. As all thesis's these papers are extremely
confidential and powerful in themselves. I trust, as always, the University
will take the necessary care to protect them.
The
easiest place to start is the beginning I suppose, from my birth, to my early
years, to my eventual enrolement at the
University and soon my Graduation there from.
1143 – 1150 (Birth to Seventh Year)
My
birth was fairly uneventful according to my parents and nany, I was born with
much anticipation though. The first born of the new Marl Family line, and how
excited they were that I was a born a male. My father was proud and my mother
delighted. Strangely enough, they never bore any other offspring and I never
thought to ask of it until now, I can only imagine some complications at birth
or some such happenings.
Generally
my early years were peaceful and uneventful. Father and Mother cared for me and
loved me and each other. Many of my days I spent in the care of Nanny Grelda
however, and tended to only see my parents in the later afternoons and early
mornings. On occasion, once or twice a year, the entire estate would pack up
and travel to Rael, Kelmarin or even the dark ciity of Karakkis. One year I recall we went to Harek, a very
long and tiring journey southwards and through the Hale Point mountain
pass. This is actually an important
event, as it was here, in Harek that I truly witnessed Magic.
I
was seven years old.
1151-1153 (Year Seven to Ten)
Harek
was an impressive city and kingdom, ruled by Her Emperess with a silken glove
they say. The city in general was mostly free, but slavery was common and many
crimes were punished harshly – theives would loose their hands or arms,
murderers their lives. Most often, their own kin would be delivering the
sentence rather than the victim or his or her family.
Magic
though, now that was itruly amazing. Even though magic is common in Veil Point
and Rael, the magic in Harek was in no way subtle and much mor flambouyant and
in your face so to speak. We were on a guided tour of one market when a thief
stole a purse from someone in the group we were with, in an instant I saw a
young man throw a spell with the ease that I would draw my dagger. The thief
was entrapped in golden yellow flames and screamed as he was held in place,
burning. Strangely enough, the purse was unharmed. That event was my first
taste of True Magic and I wanted to know more.
The
four month journey home I asked questions, and finally my Father succumed to my
pleading and suggested I spend a year at the Arcanum to discover if this indeed
is my calling. Secretly I know he harboured doubts and wished that I would not
become a wizard as he wanted me to continue the line and father grandsons in
the next ten years. Fate has its own plans, and we can only make a few
adjustments along the way.
I
was not permitted to enter the Arcanum just yet as I was too young and my body
may suffer from the sudden use of magical power, so instead I was given some
'history' books and theories rather than practical studies. I had to wait three whole years until my
tenth year to join the Preparatory Levels of the Arcanum Universitatum. With
this material, my mind was primed to access the mystical energies of magic, and
like wise, I unlocked my own inherrent abilities. Although not truly 'magic' in
the normal sense of the word, and the incredible fatigue they caused, these
powers grew with me, and as I begaing to unlock further mysteries of magic, my
inherrent powers grew stronger as well.
1154 – 1163 (Years Ten to Twenty)
The next ten years of life were caught
up in studying the practical workings of Magical Alphaeric Waves, Ley Lines,
and Nexus's of known power, and more so how to capitalise on ones environmental
energies to further power your own magic. Due to the previous three years of
academic and theory study, I grasped the practical nature of things in mere
days rather than weeks and months. I excelled in my studies and have been the
top of my classes in each end every year, soon studying and dueling with
wizards years older than myself.
Women.
Now that the Kingdom as a whole provides equal oportunities to both genders,
the same applied at the University, and this was possibly me only true
distraction. You see, women are my weakness, I absolutly grew to love them, in
all shapes and sizes, although the younger women appear to my senses more so
than the older ones. Friends I made, and enemies I guess I have too. Many of
them due to my pursuing of a certain lady figure or the rebuffel of another.
Most of this decade involved me growing
as a man as well as a Wizard. Both of which I feel I have done exceptionally
well and I am myself proud of my accomplishments as too are my mother and
father who I saw very little of during this time.
My studies of magic and women kept me busy
throughout
the years and I uncovered a multitude of new applications of magic and new ways
to harness power and link sources of magic together. My thesis on these are
documented enough and I continue to use some of them to this day. In adition to
this, funding from the Marl Estate is well documented as been overly generous
and far exceeds my tuition costs. This is not to boast or to be taken as an
attempt at persuasion, rather as a noteable benefit of what I and my Family
brought to this Institution.
1164 – 1173 (Years Twenty to Thirty)
Practical
Magic. This is what this decade was all about. Using what I have learnt in the
city itself. Finding occasional work as a Spellcaster for Hire or as a magical
bodyguard or the like. My universal grasp of magic and no shyness of any of the
schools including what some may think are darker persuits such as Necromancy
and the Fiery aspect of Evocation, I excel in all of them and yearn to know of
all magical spells that exit in this world – you may think this is a foolish
dream or quest, but it is one I will take and one journey I will never stop.
You
see, while I have learnt emense amounts here at the University, I feel I need
more of an outside world view, like those I received early in my years , I now
should explore the world and see what wonders can be uncovered. Beasts of all
kinds roam the lands and lurk in shadows, and each in its own has a mystery
that can be uncovered and that mystery can be revealed as a source for magic.
Now
as my Third Decade begins, I ask leave of the University and my duties to
continue my never-ending quest for magical knowledge and the wisdom of the
world itself.
Yours
Sincerely
Sinjin
Marl.
